The short answer
On a GLP-1, the best snacks are small, high in protein or fiber, and low in added sugar. Think a protein bar instead of a candy bar, a fiber soda instead of a regular one, and protein chips instead of potato chips. Every bite counts more when you eat less, so pick snacks that pull their weight.
GLP-1 medications, like semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound), turn your appetite way down. That is the point. But it also means each snack makes up a bigger share of what you eat in a day. A snack that is mostly sugar is now a big chunk of your day's food, with very little protein or fiber to show for it.
This guide is about snacks, not a meal plan. Your care team knows your needs best, so check with them before you change how you eat.
What to look for on the label
Flip the pack over and check three numbers. They tell you most of what you need.
- Protein. Many care teams tell GLP-1 patients to keep protein up, to help hold on to muscle while they lose weight. A snack with 10g or more is doing real work.
- Fiber. Fiber helps keep things moving, which matters when your digestion slows down. 5g or more in one snack is a lot.
- Added sugar. Big sugar hits can feel rough on a GLP-1, and they crowd out protein. Single digits is a good target.
Also check the serving size. A small bag that says "2.5 servings" is not small.
Swaps for the snacks you already like
You do not have to give up the snacks you love. You can swap them for ones that look and taste similar, with much better numbers. Here are four swaps, with numbers from each nutrition label.
| You might reach for | Try instead | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Snickers bar (250 cal, 4g protein, 27g sugar) | David protein bar | 150 cal, 28g protein, 0g sugar |
| Coca-Cola, 12 oz (39g sugar) | Barebells Protein Soda | 10g protein, 0g sugar |
| Hershey's Milk Chocolate, 1.55 oz (24g sugar) | Hormbles Chormbles protein candy | 10g protein, 0g sugar |
| Doritos, 1 oz (2g protein) | Wilde protein chips | 10g protein |
Snack ideas by craving
When you want something sweet
Protein candy is a real category now. Hormbles Chormbles makes a salted fudge candy bar with 10g of protein and no sugar. Magic Spoon makes chocolate peanut butter crispy treats with 12g of protein and 1g of sugar.
When you want something salty and crunchy
Protein chips and protein popcorn crunch like the real thing. Wilde chips have 10g of protein. KhLoud makes a truffle and white cheddar popcorn with 7g.
When you want a soda
Fiber sodas and protein sodas taste like soda, without the sugar. OLIPOP has 9g of fiber a can. Barebells Protein Soda has 10g of protein.
Go small, and go slow
Many people on a GLP-1 find they feel full fast. A few things help:
- Eat half, then wait a few minutes before you decide if you want the rest.
- Keep single-serve packs around, so a snack does not turn into a meal.
- Sip drinks slowly instead of finishing a can in one go.
The hard part: finding them
Most of these snacks come from small brands. Your grocery store may carry one or two, and the rest come in cases of 12. That is a lot of money to spend on a snack you have never tried, at a time when your tastes may be changing.
That is why we made finds box. We pick 10 high-protein, high-fiber, or low-sugar snacks and drinks, put the numbers up front, and ship them to you. Try them all, then buy more of the ones you love.
Common questions
There is no single rule, and your care team can tell you your daily target. As a rough guide, a snack with 10g of protein or more is a strong pick.
Many people do, in smaller amounts. Low-sugar and protein candy can scratch the itch with much less sugar. Ask your care team what fits your plan.
No. It is a box of 10 snacks and drinks. We list the protein, fiber, and sugar for each one so you can decide what fits.
